MGE DONATES ELECTRIC
vehicle to the zoo
MGE's latest contribution
to the Henry Vilas Zoo is
a new Neighborhood
Electric Vehicle (NEV). This
environmentally friendly vehicle produces no exhaust or emissions
because it is powered by batteries that store electricity.
The NEV plugs into a standard electric outlet to charge, and it can
operate for about 40 miles before needing to recharge. This means it
typically can be used for a full day at the zoo.
The NEV is narrower and shorter than a standard van, although it can
carry seven passengers. The size makes it ideal for use in the Zoo.
It is used primarily to transport conservation education animals and
education equipment. The NEV can reach travel up to 25 miles per
hour and can be operated on any City of Madison Street that is posted
for 35mph or below.
The electric vehicle made its debut at the Zoo's Earth Day celebration.
The zoo's NEV was purchased locally from Ozee Cars in Stoughton.
MGE's logo and a variety of zoo images are featured on the sides and
back of the van.
